Tulip & Storm's Litter – Five Weeks Old Already!

Five Weeks of Fun and Growing Independence!

Time is flying by, and I don't want to jinx it, but this has been one of the easiest litters so far. The puppies are thriving, eating exceptionally well, sleeping soundly, and, as many of you have seen on our 24/7 puppy camera, spending their waking hours playing, wrestling, and engaging together. Their little personalities will become more apparent over the next couple of weeks, and it's so much fun watching them interact with one another.

Tulip continues to be an outstanding mother. While she still checks on them frequently, nurses them, and keeps a watchful eye over the litter, she's also enjoying a little more well-deserved time to herself. She has been spending more time with her adult pack.

One of the highlights this week was a special visit from Dad, Storm. Tulip remained her protective self, carefully supervising the introduction, but she allowed Storm to quietly peek in on his youngsters. Storm was not invited to visit but he has always been so smart and opening baby gates to get to where he want's to be. So, when we were not watching he opened the baby gate to the living room where the pups are, introduced himself to his puppies and then took a nap.

If Mother Nature cooperates, this weekend we'll introduce the puppies to the great outdoors for the very first time! Their first adventure outside is always one of our favourite milestones. Most puppies are a little hesitant for the first few minutes as they experience grass beneath their feet, the breeze on their faces, and all the new sights, sounds, and smells. Before long, curiosity takes over, and they're happily exploring every corner of their new world.

The forecast is calling for quite a bit of rain this weekend, so if the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll simply postpone their big outdoor debut until next week. A little sunshine makes that first experience much more enjoyable.

This week we've also expanded their indoor play area and introduced a designated toilet area. It usually takes just a few days for the puppies to understand the concept, but once they do, they're surprisingly clean little animals. They naturally begin keeping their sleeping area separate from their bathroom area, making life much easier for both the puppies and us!

Once they're spending more time outdoors, they'll have even more opportunities to explore. We'll introduce them to a puppy tunnel, a crate for confidence building, and a variety of safe surfaces and enrichment activities. More than anything, though, they simply love running, chasing one another, and discovering the world together.

The next three weeks will be filled with new experiences, growing confidence, and lots of memorable firsts. Watching these little puppies blossom into curious, happy, and confident Golden Retrievers is truly one of the greatest joys of breeding.

Stay tuned…

Storm & Tulip Puppies – Day One

They're Here! What a day it was! Tulip didn't skip a beat yesterday. She enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner as if it were any other day... and then, at 6:30 p.m., she calmly welcomed her first puppy into the world. Making a grand entrance was  Mr. Rocky Road  (brown collar). Not long afterward,  Mr. Maple Walnut  (beige collar) arrived, and that's when things started to get a little more exciting! Our third arrival,  Mr. Pistachio  (green collar), decided the backyard lawn was the perfect place to make his debut while Tulip and I were out for an evening walk. Thankfully, I always carry a towel with me when we're close to whelping. I scooped up our newest little traveler, and Tulip and I made a speedy dash back to the house. The surprises didn't stop there!  Miss Vanilla  (white collar) made her entrance on the bedroom carpet while I was letting Tulip outside for a quick bathroom break. Shortly afterward,  Mr. Moose Tracks  (blac...

A Big Week for Dutch and Fiona's Puppies!

Two weeks old today! Fiona's puppies are now two weeks old, and what an exciting stage this is! Every day brings new changes as the puppies grow stronger, more aware, and even more adorable (if that’s possible). At this age, the biggest milestone is that their eyes are now open! Though their vision is still a bit blurry, they’re beginning to see the world for the first time — mostly shapes, light, and movement. Over the next week, their eyesight will continue to sharpen, and they’ll start recognizing their littermates, their mom, and of course, us humans. The puppies are also becoming more mobile. Their wobbly little legs are gaining strength as they start to scoot, crawl, and even attempt to stand. It’s amazing to watch how quickly they go from tiny, sleepy newborns to curious explorers. Fiona is doing a wonderful job keeping everyone clean, warm, and fed. Although she doesn't have the milk supply we hoped for, we are supplementing by bottle feeding at least once daily.  The p...
