Whitney and Jazz’s Litter – Week Three

Mr. Raven

“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”

She wasn’t taking “no” for an answer. She nudged him this way and that and whacked him on the head with her paw until he was finally aroused from his deep slumber. To her delight, Mr. Raven finally gave in and played with his sister, Miss Marigold. This is such a heartwarming phase of their development when the puppies begin to interact and play with one another, learning rudimentary social skills. They are also fine-tuning their vocal abilities. If we weren’t certain that the windows were closed, at times we could swear that there was a flock of pigeons in the room.

Since the puppies are very well established, Whitney, who’s been a stellar mom, has been taking some breaks outside of the whelping box for a bit of much-deserved “me time”. The only thing is that she’s enjoying the freedom so much that we sometimes have to drag her back to the whelping box and remind her of her responsibilities. She catches her stride in no time and is back to satisfying her family’s every need.

This week, we introduced the mini-pack to some solid food known as “mush” or “gruel”: a healthy blend of oatmeal, goat’s milk, honey and vitamins. The gang got off to a slow start, but priming their mouths with a finger-full of this sweet temptation generally does the trick. Before long everyone was smacking their lips and looking for more. Since there’s on in every crowd, Mr. Zinc was the first to actually walk into the bowl. The trio of Mr. Buff, Mr. Sapphire and Mr. Zinc lined up across one end of the bowl like power eaters at a hot dog eating competition. Miss Jade was content to lick leftovers off everyone’s face, while Miss Crimson was still a little bit too sleepy to have her dinner. By the end of their second installment of gruel, they enjoyed it so much that some even fell asleep right in the bowl.

After Whitney’s initial reluctance to move out of the bedroom into a space of her own last week, we finally managed to sway her and move the group into the nice, bright surroundings of the living room. At the same time, the extension was added to the whelping box providing Whitney and her crew some much needed space; something akin to graduating from a single bed to a king sized one. The room even boasts a sofa that Whitney can get some of her beauty sleep on.

That’s it for now, but be sure to join us next week for another electrifying installment of “Puppy Tales”.

Bronson and Tulip Litter – 7 weeks

We're 7 weeks old today! It has been an adventure-filled week! It was the puppies' first-time riding in a car! Introducing them to new experiences begins at this age. Rides in cars, sounds, meeting new people, etc. Our puppies are often taken to Home Depot, Winners, Homesense, Petsmart, and other pet-friendly stores after they receive their next set of vaccinations. While they still ride in the shopping cart, their horizons are broadening. We’ve expanded the puppies play area which is either in our kitchen, outside in the yard or on our porch depending on the weather. They enjoy playing together and are becoming more and more confident. Their play area includes toys an activity center, a crate, and tunnel.  Jolly Pets' Jolly Ball was a huge hit today. The puppies seemed to take turns carrying it! All of them weigh between 13 and 15 pounds. Their appetites are good, and momma Tulip occasionally stops by with a vanilla milkshake. Beef, turkey and chicken are among the protein

Bronson & Tulip Litter– Week 6

A very happy 6 week birthday to this eye-catching litter! We are loving every minute we have with this litter and the weeks are flying by. The milk bar continues to be provided by Tulip who is an excellent mom. We had a wonderful time outside in between the rain showers this past week. The pups are confident and didn't seem nervous at all. Immediately they were at ease in their new surroundings, sniffing and exploring this new exciting adventure. Each time they go out, they explore further into the backyard but are always under the watchful eye of Tulip. This litter continues to be very quiet, which means they are very happy and content. They are all approaching 10 pounds in weight and it amazes me from one day to the next how quickly they grow up.  Mom begins weaning the pups and teaching them discipline. Through puppy play-biting, the pup learns bite inhibition and socialization with its siblings. Normal behaviour at this age. Six-week-old puppies still have a lot to learn from t
