Storm & Hannah Litter – Week Four

What an amazing week we've had!

“Helter Skelter”

This was a week of adjustment as Hannah and her mini pack moved out of the bedroom and into the living room to join fellow moms Paige & Faith. In order to make room for everyone, we had Faith’s pups bunk with Paige’s since they were good friends anyway. Poor Faith must not have received the change of address notice so she frequently spent time lounging in Hannah’s whelping box and often nursed them. Hannah and Paige were happy to share their duties with someone else. To add to the confusion, Mr. Lilac from Faith’s litter escaped from his whelping box and boosted himself into Hannah’s to mingle with her pups. We think he was probably out searching for his own mom.

Among other things, Hannah’s pups are finding their voices. Miss Omlette and Mr. Toast would often sing (okay, make that shriek) in unison breaking the ambience of our Caledon calm. Fortunately, these two were unable to recruit the rest of the pack(s)and were destined to perform only duets.  But puppy families need not worry, by our experience, the loudest ones in our environment often never make a peep in later life.

The gang had their first raw feeding of hormone and antibiotic-free meat with organic vegetables, pro-biotics, vitamin supplements including vitamin C, bovine colostrum and Puppy Gold for eye and immune system development, goat’s milk and plain yoghurt to supplement the feedings they get from their mom. Of course, this extends beyond Hannah. It seems they’ve adopted Faith as their Godmother so she’s helping to keep them nourished as well even though the puppies have twenty-eight razor sharp teeth and she’s providing her services on a volunteer basis.

We also had our inaugural backyard playtime. With this bunch, given that this is all so very new to them, Hannah and Godmother Faith are still the focus of their attention for the moment and they often forgo the wonders of nature in favour of copping a snack. When everything is said and done and daylight begins to ebb, the little ones enjoy being caressed as the sandman comes to visit. They’ll get rejuvenated for another playtime and whatever adventures the new day will bring.

That’s it for now but be sure to join us next week for another heart-warming installment of “Puppy Tales”.

Bronson and Tulip Litter – 7 weeks

We're 7 weeks old today! It has been an adventure-filled week! It was the puppies' first-time riding in a car! Introducing them to new experiences begins at this age. Rides in cars, sounds, meeting new people, etc. Our puppies are often taken to Home Depot, Winners, Homesense, Petsmart, and other pet-friendly stores after they receive their next set of vaccinations. While they still ride in the shopping cart, their horizons are broadening. We’ve expanded the puppies play area which is either in our kitchen, outside in the yard or on our porch depending on the weather. They enjoy playing together and are becoming more and more confident. Their play area includes toys an activity center, a crate, and tunnel.  Jolly Pets' Jolly Ball was a huge hit today. The puppies seemed to take turns carrying it! All of them weigh between 13 and 15 pounds. Their appetites are good, and momma Tulip occasionally stops by with a vanilla milkshake. Beef, turkey and chicken are among the protein

Bronson & Tulip Litter– Week 6

A very happy 6 week birthday to this eye-catching litter! We are loving every minute we have with this litter and the weeks are flying by. The milk bar continues to be provided by Tulip who is an excellent mom. We had a wonderful time outside in between the rain showers this past week. The pups are confident and didn't seem nervous at all. Immediately they were at ease in their new surroundings, sniffing and exploring this new exciting adventure. Each time they go out, they explore further into the backyard but are always under the watchful eye of Tulip. This litter continues to be very quiet, which means they are very happy and content. They are all approaching 10 pounds in weight and it amazes me from one day to the next how quickly they grow up.  Mom begins weaning the pups and teaching them discipline. Through puppy play-biting, the pup learns bite inhibition and socialization with its siblings. Normal behaviour at this age. Six-week-old puppies still have a lot to learn from t
