Storm & Hannah Litter – Week Seven

Such a tender moment between momma and puppy.

“The Shell Game”

It was another hot and muggy day in Caledon and the previous evening’s rain had done little to break the humidity.  The puppies were outside for their usual morning romp. These days, the little ones don’t always acquiesce when it’s time to come back inside and today was no exception. One by one, we gathered them up and deposited them in the whelping box. When we did the headcount, we were one short and it’s not as if there were that many to count yet there were no other puppies visible anywhere. We searched high and low and then by chance we heard a whimper, but it was coming from the most peculiar place and that’s where we found her. Since it had rained the previous evening, we tipped the little turtle-shaped pool up against the fence to empty. It seems that Miss Omelette had crawled behind and nudged it so it slid down and trapped her under the shell. Despite our own trauma, the little girl was unfazed.

This week included a car ride and visit to our friendly veterinarian. The gang was fairly quiet in the car and very well behaved in the clinic where they received their checkups and first set of vaccinations. All passed with flying colours and even the ride home went smoothly.

The most popular sport this week was freestyle swimming and there was a lot of that in their little turtle pool. Their Auntie Faith was always on hand to chaperone and provide the occasional snack. We always had to have towels at the ready to dry them off as they came back inside. We’re sure we did a record amount of laundry this past week.

It’s interesting to witness the pups’ growing independence as they venture into the far corners of the yard either on their own or in small groups. When they’re not in full play mode, they love to cuddle and they all tend to roll over and expose their undersides for belly rubs. Needless to say, we’re going to miss giving them all that attention.

To our sweet little puppies who have given us so much love and happiness these past eight weeks, when we think of you, we’ll find comfort in knowing how much happiness you will bring to your new families. You have given us so many kisses and memories that we’ll treasure always. So long, little ones. We wish you all the best in your journey, but most of all, we wish you love.

That concludes this edition of “Puppy Tales”.  See you next litter!

Bronson and Tulip Litter – 7 weeks

We're 7 weeks old today! It has been an adventure-filled week! It was the puppies' first-time riding in a car! Introducing them to new experiences begins at this age. Rides in cars, sounds, meeting new people, etc. Our puppies are often taken to Home Depot, Winners, Homesense, Petsmart, and other pet-friendly stores after they receive their next set of vaccinations. While they still ride in the shopping cart, their horizons are broadening. We’ve expanded the puppies play area which is either in our kitchen, outside in the yard or on our porch depending on the weather. They enjoy playing together and are becoming more and more confident. Their play area includes toys an activity center, a crate, and tunnel.  Jolly Pets' Jolly Ball was a huge hit today. The puppies seemed to take turns carrying it! All of them weigh between 13 and 15 pounds. Their appetites are good, and momma Tulip occasionally stops by with a vanilla milkshake. Beef, turkey and chicken are among the protein

Bronson & Tulip Litter– Week 6

A very happy 6 week birthday to this eye-catching litter! We are loving every minute we have with this litter and the weeks are flying by. The milk bar continues to be provided by Tulip who is an excellent mom. We had a wonderful time outside in between the rain showers this past week. The pups are confident and didn't seem nervous at all. Immediately they were at ease in their new surroundings, sniffing and exploring this new exciting adventure. Each time they go out, they explore further into the backyard but are always under the watchful eye of Tulip. This litter continues to be very quiet, which means they are very happy and content. They are all approaching 10 pounds in weight and it amazes me from one day to the next how quickly they grow up.  Mom begins weaning the pups and teaching them discipline. Through puppy play-biting, the pup learns bite inhibition and socialization with its siblings. Normal behaviour at this age. Six-week-old puppies still have a lot to learn from t
