Heidi and Hudson’s Litter – Week Eight

Miss Violet (Winnie)

“The Wailing of the Banshee”

She ran at top speed, her lithe legs churning, kicking up tufts of sod as her paws tore into the turf. She was only too aware of the sound of the rest of the pack in pursuit. She stopped abruptly and swung around in the opposite direction, panting heavily. We watched from a distance as the scene unfolded. Heidi was running back and forth along the fence line with the rest of the pack in tow, but what was not immediately evident was that inexplicably she was outside the compound! Happily, she returned quite readily when we opened the gate to let her back inside the yard. Whether motherhood had proved to be so difficult that Heidi felt she needed to escape or whether she was just being a clever girl, we weren’t certain.  That is, until we did a perimeter sweep and Heidi showed us a section of fence that had been compromised. We now understand the proclivity of her daughters: Miss Scarlet and Miss Violet, for their numerous escape attempts.

This has been a very well-behaved group for the most part; well almost. Puppies are not immune from little pranks. On one sunny afternoon, we heard what sounded like the wailing of a banshee coming from the foyer. Upon investigation, we discovered a crate that the puppies had managed to push from the upper part of the foyer, down the lone five inch step into the lower part so that it sat with the opening pointing skyward …….with poor Mr. Ebony inside. On a couple of other occasions, we witnessed Mr. Charcoal on the bottom of this chasm taunting his siblings who remained lined up along its ledge, unwilling to venture down.

The past two months have seen a roller coaster sampling of weather wherein the group has experienced all four seasons. They had ample fun playing together, whether inside or out and they made a lot of friends, both two and four-legged. While it’s sad to see them go, our hearts are warmed by the knowledge that the puppies will be abundantly loved as they continue on the next leg of their journey. As the week wound down, we spent a lot of time with each and every one to ensure that we all got our fill of kisses. These were among the most special moments that we’ll treasure forever. So long, little ones…..will you remember me?

That concludes this edition of “Puppy Tales”.  See you next litter!

Bronson and Tulip Litter – 7 weeks

We're 7 weeks old today! It has been an adventure-filled week! It was the puppies' first-time riding in a car! Introducing them to new experiences begins at this age. Rides in cars, sounds, meeting new people, etc. Our puppies are often taken to Home Depot, Winners, Homesense, Petsmart, and other pet-friendly stores after they receive their next set of vaccinations. While they still ride in the shopping cart, their horizons are broadening. We’ve expanded the puppies play area which is either in our kitchen, outside in the yard or on our porch depending on the weather. They enjoy playing together and are becoming more and more confident. Their play area includes toys an activity center, a crate, and tunnel.  Jolly Pets' Jolly Ball was a huge hit today. The puppies seemed to take turns carrying it! All of them weigh between 13 and 15 pounds. Their appetites are good, and momma Tulip occasionally stops by with a vanilla milkshake. Beef, turkey and chicken are among the protein

Bronson & Tulip Litter– Week 6

A very happy 6 week birthday to this eye-catching litter! We are loving every minute we have with this litter and the weeks are flying by. The milk bar continues to be provided by Tulip who is an excellent mom. We had a wonderful time outside in between the rain showers this past week. The pups are confident and didn't seem nervous at all. Immediately they were at ease in their new surroundings, sniffing and exploring this new exciting adventure. Each time they go out, they explore further into the backyard but are always under the watchful eye of Tulip. This litter continues to be very quiet, which means they are very happy and content. They are all approaching 10 pounds in weight and it amazes me from one day to the next how quickly they grow up.  Mom begins weaning the pups and teaching them discipline. Through puppy play-biting, the pup learns bite inhibition and socialization with its siblings. Normal behaviour at this age. Six-week-old puppies still have a lot to learn from t
